AI clones voices of famous actors
The SAG-AFTRA strike united actors and actresses to protest for better working conditions and against the potential use of artificial intelligence. Specifically, the union pointed out that AI can create digital clones, animated avatars or voices that imitate actors in a deceptively real way. This threatens jobs, but of course only if they are still alive. Or not? Cloned voices of deceased artists could also do the job. The US company ElevenLabs is known for generating voices. It has recently released a function called “Iconic Voices”, which allows dead actors to record texts.

Konkret wies die Gewerkschaft darauf hin, dass KI digitale Klone erstellen kann, animierte Avatare oder Stimmen, die Schauspieler*innen täuschend echt nachbilden. Das bedrohe Arbeitsplätze, aber natürlich nur dann, wenn sie noch leben. Oder doch nicht? Denn auch geklonte Stimmen verstorbener Künstler*innen könnten den Job übernehmen. Das US-amerikanische Unternehmen ElevenLabs ist bekannt dafür, Stimmen zu generieren. Vor kurzem hat es jetzt eine Funktion names „Iconic Voices“ veröffentlicht, die es ermöglicht, tote Schauspieler*innen Texte einsprechen zu lassen.
